Mac runing disk aid does it work3/15/2023 In case the issue is still occurring, try moving the preference file ( ) away from the Library menu in order to force the OS to create a new healthy file. Unless the problem is occurring due to a 3rd party conflict – in this case, run the Disk Utility in Safe mode and see if the problem is fixed. In this scenario, using the terminal to identify and kill the task managing the process will fix the issue entirely. However, this issue can also be triggered by a stuck Disk Utility process. This will resolve the common glitch where the Disk Utility will hand with the “Loading disks” message after a new HDD or SDD drive is connected. In some cases, this issue is facilitated by a fairly common inconsistency that can be resolved easily via a simple Mac restart. Whenever they try to open it, the Disk Utility ends up displaying the ‘ Loading disks‘ message endlessly without actually displaying any of the disks. I have uninstalled all non-mac apps except Roboform, I have zapped everything that can be zapped, I have had it crash in safe mode, I have run diagnostics with apple tech support and found nothing, I have reinstalled the system. Some macOS users are reporting that they are suddenly unable to verify the status of their HDD or SSD drives via the Disk Utility. I have been having difficulty with this Mac since I got it (just out of the return period unfortunately) and I am trying to figure out what is wrong. Note when I look in the details about the corruption there is nothing listed as wrong. If I immediately run it again, or switch to another user and run it again, it will find the corruption. So, if I run disk utility immediately after a restart, (whether in repair or in any user account) it finds nothing. I finally figured out that it isn't running a repair from Recovery that temporarily fixes the corruption, it's the simple fact of restarting. When I then go back and run it from any user the corruption is still there. I then do as it says and run the repair from Recovery, which never finds anything wrong nor fixes anything. I get the message that Disk First aid has found corruption and needs to be repaired when running it on my main hard drive on my brand new MacBook Pro (running Mohave). Why did disk utility freeze at "preforming fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1" and what can i do in the future if this happens again? Has anyone else ran into this issue with Disk Utility where they have to force shut down their mac just because it freezes up?ĭisk First Aid finds corruption the 2nd time it's run after restart. the reinstallation from recovery just finished and disk utility shows that everything is fine, but i do not know why this has happened. I decided to reboot into recovery mode, where i ran another disk utility first-aid(everything ok) and decided to reinstall the current version on macos high sierra. i would say this is a first, but unfortunately this has happened before about 2-3 weeks ago with the exact same issue. when in safe-mode i ran disk utility there before restarting back to normal first-aid showed everything was ok. i gave disk utility a good 10-15 minutes before i decided to force shut down my mac and boot it back up into safe-mode. unfortunately the disk utility got stuck on "preforming fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1". I ran a quick first-aid with disk utility today just to make sure everything is running smoothly on my mac.
